Cleaning products you should never mix
Sometimes when you're cleaning, you might be tempted to start mixing your products. Often times, there's no problem with it! But, there are a few instances when you'll want to steer clear of any mixing.
The main ingredient you'll want to pay attention to if you ever mix products is your bleach.
1. Never mix Vinegar with Bleach.
Vinegar is often known as a natural cleaning agent, but make sure you aren't mixing it with Bleach. It can cause chemical burns to skin, eyes and lungs as it releases toxic vapors.
2. Never mix Ammonia with Bleach.
Normally you wouldn't find an opportunity to mix straight ammonia with bleach, but beware of what is in your other products (especially glass cleaner). Glass cleaners come in both Ammonia and Ammonia free versions. Steer clear of ammonia versions if you ever plan on mixing with bleach at all. Inhaling this mixture could cause throat and/or lung damage.
3. Never mix Rubbing Alcohol with Bleach.
Rubbing Alcohol and Bleach create what we call Chloroform. Low levels of exposure to chloroform can result in dizziness and nausea but high levels can result in death.
4. Don't mix Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar.
While they're both used often for natural cleaning remedies, we don't recommend using them together. Their combination can become possibly corrosive and likely damaging to your health.
Our last mixture isn't so much dangerous as it is ineffective.
5. Baking Soda and Vinegar.
Mixing baking soda and vinegar is often claimed as a great natural cleaning product. But, from the science side of things, baking soda is basic, vinegar is acidic and when you mix them together, you get mostly water. In our experience, you're much more likely to have success with a cleaning job turning to your tried and true cleaning solutions.
